The increase in the exempt amount ends on 30.11.2021

Due to the financial effects of the coronavirus epidemic, the exempt amount of adjusted unemployment allowance has been raised temporarily with amendment to the law from 1 June 2020 onward. The temporary amendment to the law expires on 30 November 2021.

The exempt amount, that is the limit below which gross income does not affect unemployment benefit at all, has been increased with temperary amendments to the law from 1.6.2020 onward. The latest amendment to the law expires on 30.11.2021 and the goverment has proposed that the amendment to the law should no longer be extended.

The increased exempt amount is still used for application periods beginning no later than 30.11.2021. The incresed exempt amount is gross 500 € if the application period is one month and gross 465 € if the application period is 4 weeks. 

The exempt amount for application periods beginning on 1.12.2021 or later is again in accordance with normal law, ie. gross 300 € if the application period is one month and gross 279 € if the application period is 4 week. As the exempt amount returns to normal, the effect of earnings on the amount of the adjusted daily allowance increases, ie. less of the adjusted allowance remains to be paid than was paid during the term of the increased exempt amount.
