If you are unemployed

1. Register as an unemployed job seeker with the Employment and Economic Development Office (TE-toimisto).

Register as an unemployed job seeker with TE-toimisto latest on your first day of unemployment. You can register as a job seeker through TE-palvelut.

The unemployment fund can pay you allowance only for the time you have been a job seeker with TE-toimisto. It is very important that you register as a job seeker and that you keep your registration valid.

2. Do you meet the condition for claiming earnings-related allowance?

You can claim earnings-related allowance from an unemployment fund, if

  • you have been a member of the fund for at least 26 weeks (6 months) and
  • you have paid your membership fees and
  • you have met the employment condition during your period of membership

The employment condition is met if you have worked at least 26 weeks (6 months) during a period of 28 months.  If you have worked at least 18 hours during a week, that week is counted as a working week.

If you do not meet the condition for claiming earnings-related allowance, send your claim to Kela.

3. Fill in an application form

You can claim allowance by filling in an application form through WebKassa –service or by sending an application form to the fund through the mail. You can find a printable application form on TYJ page.

Claims for earnings-related allowance are made retroactively. You can send your first claim when you have been a job seeker for at least two weeks. Fill in the application form so that the last day is either a Sunday or the last day of a month.

After the first claim you can choose whether you want to send application forms in periods of four weeks or of one month. We recommend the period of one month.

Fill in the application form carefully. Processing an application is delayed, if it is necessary to ask for more information.

4. Attach employment and salary certificates

Attach to your first claim the following attachments

  • an employment certificate (työtodistus) for at least the last 26 working weeks
  • a pay certificate (palkkatodistus) for a minimum of 26 weeks (when you have been working at least 18 hours per week).
  • a copy of the notice of termination or notice of lay-off
  • if you have been laid off or you are in part-time employment, a copy of your employment contract (työsopimus)

Do not send the original certificates. A copy is always good enough for the fund.

5. Send your application form and the attachments

You can send you application form and all attachments that you have in pdf-form through WebKassa –service.

If you want to send the application and/or attachments through the mail, use this address

Terveydenhuoltoalan Työttömyyskassa
PL 70
00060 TEHY

6. The fund strives to process all claims within two weeks of their arrival

All claims that come to the fund are processed in the order they came in. You can follow the status of you application through WebKassa. You can find “Application handling status” under “Applications” –page.

When your claim has been processed, the fund will send you a decision on the basis of payment, payment notice and a continuation application form.
